Professor Hermann Gretsch Designer + Architect
In the 1930s, the Form 98, a porcelain series for hotels and restaurants, was designed by Prof. Hermann Gretsch. Hermann Gretsch was born in 1895. He was an architect, ceramist and worked as a specialist teacher and building councilor.
Gretsch was strongly inspired and influenced by the Bauhaus style. His designs are still regarded today as prime examples of timeless, simple and functional forms. The Bauhaus period marked a turning point in industrial porcelain production, moving away from historicizing forms and Art Deco towards functional items with timeless aesthetics. This gave rise to a new design language that did justice to industrial manufacturing processes. Form 98 is the basic form for DIBBERN SOLID COLOR. The pure form is still the model for clear design today. DIBBERN introduced the first colors in the SOLID COLOR series in the early 1980s.
To this day, SOLID COLOR has established itself as a cult tableware with 41 colors. Form 98 was awarded the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1940 and the Design Plus Prize at the Frankfurt Trade Fair in 1984.
